If you have successfully passed the MCAT exam, then you can carry on to a recognized medical school as a further step of anesthesiologist schooling. Through the medical school, you need to achieve your M.D. (i.e. Doctor of Medicine) degree. Since the anesthesiologists need to have the information of different kinds of medicines, the medical school will expose you to the related areas of medical fields, especially the pharmacy, surgery, internal medicine and cardiology.

The 4 years of medical college will encompass 2 years of class-room training and the other 2 years will be focused on massing clinical experience.

Third Stage: Residency

After the completion of medical school, which requires you to have achieved the M.D. degree, you can then go through a residency program in the anesthesiology specialty area. It also takes generally 4 years.

In the 1st year, the course will encompass rotating through the different general medicine areas, namely the pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine and so on. The other 3 years will be entirely focused on the anesthesiology. You’ll have a good time massing experience and knowledge in the hospital.

Following the completion of your residency, you can also enroll yourself in some interested fellowship programs, which lasts 1 or 2 years accordingly. These post-residency programs primarily focus on anesthesiology’s sub-specialty areas, namely the neurosurgery, pediatric, dental or transplant anesthesia. Vocational training is also valuable.

Fourth Stage: Certification

Certification from the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) or the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) is the final feat to achieve in order to be an anesthesiologist. As a matter of fact, the board certification involves the completion of oral & written exams.  Besides, you should also need to get licensed by the state in which you sought to practice.

In brief, you need to get good grades in science and math subjects during high school education, and then you need to spend 4 years in any of the accredited colleges. After that, there are the medical schools and the universities. Some of the best medical schools are in Georgia and in Florida. So, you may need to live away from your home for further education, if you are indeed determined to be an anesthesiologist. As a side note, the best job outlooks regarding anesthesiology practitioners are MD anesthesiologists, nurse anesthesiologist/Certifies Registered Nursing anesthesiologist, anesthesiologist assistants and anesthesiologist technicians. The time period of anesthesiologist schooling differs according to the choice of your career.

16 Years of Anesthesiologist Education- Is it worth?

Frankly speaking, the best thing about being an anesthesiologist is that you earn a very good salary i.e. about $400,000 on yearly basis. Some lucky anesthesiologists even earn more. Anyway, before you get more excited in this handsome salary figure, I would like to take your attention towards anesthesiologist education requirements. For your information, to become an anesthesiologist one needs to complete at least 16 long years of anesthesiologist schooling. You may now be wondering that the study time period is too long, not to mention the tremendous education fees to be charged. What you should know is that the anesthesiologist career scope is also too great and so are its earning potentialities.

anesthesiologist educationBeing the top ranking post in the Anesthesia Care Unit, the anesthesiologist, who is also referred to as the physician, has to bear a number of crucial job responsibilities. Among others, the primary jobs involve administering the anesthetics to the patients to keep them sedated during the operation procedure. Along with this, the anesthesiologist will also have to monitor the patient’s condition before the operation, during the operation and even after the operation. By the way, medical students who don’t think they can afford the anesthesiologist training program, have also the alternative of becoming a nurse anesthetist instead. The duties are similar and the schooling is not as costly as that of anesthesiologist.

Anesthesiologist Education Requirements:

For earning the title of an anesthesiologist, one needs to dedicate at least 16 year of one’s precious life in completing all the anesthesiologist education requirements. Your path to become an anesthesiologist starts by getting a bachelor’s degree and then qualifying in the premed schools. After that, you will need to enroll yourself in any of the accredited medical schools. The medical schools generally involves a 4 years long anesthesiology program course, that enlightens you with the knowledge of basic anesthesiology subjects along with some basic clinical practice for getting familiar with the anesthesia and lab apparatus. At the successful completion of this program, you will become an MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree holder.

Once you achieve your MD degree, you are then qualified to commit yourself in the accredited residency programs, which, for your information, also encompass a time length of 4 years. These residency programs generally focus on clinical practice, aside from the first one year which gets spent on theoretical courses on rotation basis.

Needless to say, the fellowship programs follow after the completion of residency programs, and, for your own benefit too. Nevertheless, the fellowship programs involve the study of sub-specialties of anesthesiology and, luckily, they take just one or two years to complete depending upon the course study. As the further and the last step for claiming the anesthesiologist title, one needs to sit the certification exam held by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA).

As a side note, you are also at the liberty to search and view the online anesthesiologist training options and get the required information on their programs, cost and other facilities. The good thing about the online classes is that they offer you a flexible study schedule, which means that you can do some jobs and, at the same time, catch up with your anesthesiology study. All the same, to become an anesthesiologist that online path is not considered good and the employment opportunities as well as the earnings would also be of modest nature.

Salary and career scope:

No doubt, the greatness of the job profile also has a direct effect towards the salary, and anesthesiologist is not an exception to it. Like I said before, the anesthesiologists have the earning potentiality of as much as or over $400,000, which, I believe, makes the 16 years of anesthesiologist education worth spending. Nonetheless, their salary figures are influenced by factors such as qualifications, work experience, place of hire and industry in which one is employed. But even so, the demands for anesthesiologist is way too much, especially thanks to the growing population. The expertise of the anesthesiologist is indeed a boon for patients’ who are on the verge of operation procedures.
